Question

Do ARVs cause fertility problems?

I’m having problems with conceiving, is it because I’m on medication?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

ARVs aren’t known to cause fertility problems in women.

If you’ve been trying for a while, please talk to your doctor who can help.

Hello Munji and thanks for getting in touch.

I am so sorry to hear about this.

What has your doctor said about this?

Amenorrhea is not common in women living with HIV, especially if you are on treatment but can show other problems

Please speak with a doctor who can help and support you

Hi Sabrina, thanks. HIV meds are not linked to fertility problems. Please talk to your doctor about this and for other things that might help if you want to have a baby.

If you are on ARV treatment for less than 10 years and you are 35 yrs old, have the ARVs affected fertility?

Hi Nurse, have you been to see a doctor since you have been trying to conceive? and what have you tried to help?

HIV treatment does not prevent pregnancy. As it keeps both you and your husband healthy, treatment only helps to improve fertility. This is in conjunction with other factors that can impact fertility inc. age, diet, other health conditions etc…

    Have you been pregnant before?
