Do we need more than ART meds to have a baby?

My husband  and I are both HIV+ and we want to have a baby. What measures can we take to give birth to a HIV-negative baby?  Are there any medication besides ART to take to protect our baby from the virus?

Hi there

Thanks for your question – and great that you are thinking of starting a family.

Being on ART will be the best for your health during pregnancy and also to protect the baby.

Please talk to your doctor about your plans though. Depending on which meds you are currently using, there might be a reason to use a slightly different ART.

Your doctor can also help with practical advice, for example, to now the best times to try to conceive.
