Q and A

Question

Can positive people get a visa for Australia?

I’m Kenyan and positive. My partner lives in Australia, will I be allowed a visa?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

At the moment due to Covid, it’s very difficult for Australian citizens to get into Australia due to flight restrictions. Therefore, the situation for non- Australians is likely to be difficult.

With regards to a visa, unlike the UK or the US, (where your status wouldn’t be an issue)  Australia has a more complex system as the following explains: https://www.hivtravel.org/Default.aspx?PageId=143&CountryId=23 The best thing to do is to get in touch with the Australian immigration service and see what your options are.

    Hi Anonymous,

Are you taking ARVs? If you are how long have you been taking them for? Are you breastfeeding or giving your baby formula?

    Hi Anad,

It all depends on where it is that you’d like to study. Some countries don’t have a problem with positive people, whereas others do. The following link provides info on were it’s OK to travel/study: https://www.hivtravel.org/
