Q and A

Question

I am a male that is HIV positive and my partner is HIV negative, is there a way we can still have children?

Answer

Thank you for your question.

It is possible for discordant couples (where one person is positive and one person is negative) to have children. If you follow this link to a section in the i-Base guide to ‘HIV, Pregnancy and Woman’s Health’ it will explain the various ways in which you can go about this to ensure that your partner and child remain HIV negative.

If you and your partner have decided to start a family the first step is for you both to visit your HIV doctor and discuss the options available to you and any risks involved.
