Question

Is there a difference between ARVs and ART?

What is the difference between ART and ARVs?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

ARV = Anti-Retrovirals. ART = Anti-Retroviral therapy.

ARVs are used for ART. ARVs are a class of medication used to treat viral infections. This is similar to how people use antibiotics to treat bacterial infections. ARVs are not specific to HIV.

ART is often associated with HIV. This is because ARVs need to be used daily to manage HIV and as such can be considered ‘long-term’. ART is how you manage HIV, ARVs is what you use to manage HIV.

Josh.
