Hi there, I’m 12 weeks pregnant and my viral load is 12,000. Will my baby also be okay?

Thanks for your question and congratulations on your pregnancy – this must be a very exciting time.
At 12 weeks, you are only one third or the way though your pregnancy, This means there is plenty of time for your viral load to become undetectable before your baby is due.
Without more details about your HIV treatment and history, it is difficult to comment in detail.
This will depend on when you were diagnosed, when you started treatment and which meds you are taking.
Please ask the doctors and other health workers anything that you are worried about. This is because they know your history and they can take more time to explain everything.
