Can I take testosterone with my ARVs?

I am on Kivexa (abacavir and 3TC) and Stocrin (efavirenz), can I take testosterone and Deca?

(Deca-durabolin is the brand name for a steroid called nandrolone decanoate)

Deca-durabolin (nandrolone) has no interactions with your antiretroviral treatment.

Testosterone may have an interaction with the Stocrin (efavirenz). It is possible that taking testosterone alongside Stocrin could reduce the amount of active Stocrin in your body. This could potentially lead to resistance and your ARVs not working properly. For this reason if you do decide to take testosterone you should make your doctor aware of this.

    Hi Mark, Testoviron is a formulation of testosterone. There are no problems with using this with your HIV meds.

    Hi Mbalisto, Trivenz contains efavirenz. Efavirenz can reduce how mush testosterone is absorbed by the body. This interaction can be avoided by taking testosterone 2 hours before, or 6 hours after taking Trivenz. If you take them at the same time you may need to increase the dose of testosterone you take – this will be discussed with your doctor.

    Hi Jonathan, there are no known interactions between testosterone and ARVs. A rare but potential side effect of ARVs is liver disease. This side effect depends on which combination of ARVs you are using. If you have liver disease, testosterone is not advised.

    Please tell your doctor if you plan to take body buidling steriods or other supplements.That’s because steriods can interact with some ARVs.
