Does tenofovir work for both HIV and hepatitis B?
How much does it cost? I am from India.
Answer
Tenofovir works to treat both HIV and hepatitis B. However, it should not be used on it’s own. To treat your HIV, you need a combination of 3 drugs.
Because you are co-infected with hepatitis B, your combination should include: tenofovir; either FTC (also known as emtricitabine) or 3TC (also known as lamivudine); and a third drug. The third drug will depend on your doctor’s recommendation.
In response to your second question, in India, the price of tenofovir varies depending on whether it is the brand name drug or the generic drug. (Generic drugs contain the same active ingredients and are just as effective as the brand name drugs). For more detailed information on the range of prices, please follow this link to the MSF (Medicins Sans Frontieres) website.

Please see the above post.
I just found out my boyfriend uses tenofovir and he hasn’t told me anything. Are there any chances that he may have HIV, please help.
What are other disease that requires you to use tenofovir?
Thank you for the quick response.
Hello Raj
I am sorry that you are so lonely and not yet feeling well. It is good that you would like to get in touch with a support group. Many people find it useful to share experiences of taking treatment and ways of coping with living with HIV.
You may find it helpful to contact INP+ (Indian Network for People Living with HIV) on http://www.inpplus.net/. INP+ work with people living with HIV and will be able to put you in contact with a support group near where you live.
