Q and A

Question

Can I have a baby on my current drug combination?

I am HIV positive and on Kaletra and Aspen Lamzid and would like to have a baby. How safe is it with this combination of HIV medication? My CD4 is 400 and my viral load is undetectable.

Thanks

Answer

Thank you for your question.

The drugs you are currently taking are the drugs recommended for use during pregnancy. Having an undetectable viral load is good. If a mother’s viral load is undetectable when it is born the chance of the baby having HIV is almost zero.

It is great that you are considering having children and that you are gathering all the information you need before getting pregnant to ensure your baby is HIV negative.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
