Question

Are Trenvir and Trivenz the same thing?

I was given Trivenz in the 1st month then Trenvir in the 2nd month is it ok for my health?? I take my pills at 20:30 and my supper at 20:10 is it ok to do so?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

The ARVs that you’ve been given are both generic versions of an ARV called Atripla, please see here: https://i-base.info/guides/1561 What this means is that they contain the same compounds. It’s common to be given different generic versions of Atripla, especially in Southern African countries.

With regards to when you should take your meds, the above link discusses this.

Hello Roy and thanks for getting in touch.

Both the medication you are asking about are generics.

This means they have exactly the same medications but are sold by different brands.

I am afraid I can’t know about the prices in your country, as I am based in the UK, where these brands are not sold.

It is best to ask a pharmacist in your country for more information.

Hello Ngwako and thanks for getting in touch.

Low CD4 count can be only one of the reasons you are getting shingles or it might be some form of herpes.

You should raise this with your doctor so they can run appropriate tests and give you treatment.

This might be completely unrelated to your ARV treatment and CD4 count, so please don’t worry if you take your ARV medication regularly.
