Question

What is it like to visit a sexual health clinic?

Answer

In the UK, sexual health clinics are free public clinics (examinations, consultations and treatments are all free). They are also confidential and not linked to any other health records (ie they cannot contact your family doctor or GP unless to specifically agree this).
They are also called GUM (Genitary Urinary Medicine) clinics.

An online video about visiting a clinic in Birmingham is at this link.

The Bristish Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) list Genitary Urininary Medicine (GUM) clinics on the home page of their web site which you can also search by postcode.

You can call NHS direct on 0845 4647 to find out details of local clinics, or the receptionist at your GP can tell you your local clinic without you having to give your name.
