Question

Any support for heterosexual men?

I am heterosexual and HIV+. My wife and 4 month old baby are both negative but it can be so hard and lonely being the only people ‘in the know’ Can you recomend a way that we can meet other people in our situation with HIV?

Heterosexual men with HIV seem to be a rare breed and are often forgotten about on many of the web sites. I understand that the majority of infected people are gay men but perhaps there should be a site for heterosexual infected men too? I noticed that the NAT is doing a survey but it does not include heterosexual men? Why?

It’s easy to feel left out if you know what I mean?

Answer

Hi,

Sorry to hear that.

Firstly, I can’t comment on the NAT survey, they are a different organisation and perhaps you can ask them directly, as I am not particularly aware of which survey you are referring to.

There is a list of organisations/support groups published at the following link:

Please note that some of them are more like dating sites while others are more social and you will have to see which ones are the types you are looking for.

The organisation Body&Soul run a family orientated support group in London that is mainly heterosexual.

Hope this helps

All the best

    Hi Sara,
This sounds like a good idea- it might be worth putting this message onto an online forum such as myhiv or the UKCAB. You could also contact Positively UK which is a London-based support service that has a number of heterosexual members.

I am + and hetero woman and I was thinking of forming a weekly peer support group for hetero + people as there are many for gay people but not for us.(London)
I would like to know if many people would be interested in it, before I progress.

Please let me know if interested
