Question

Will the government start to charge for HIV drugs?

Hi there!
First thanks again (I can never say enough) about this website and all the info you supply to people like me. It gives me hope and a light at the end of the tunnel…thanks!
I have a quick question: I have heard that with all the credit cruch going on there is a possibility that the government will start charging for HIV medication. Is it true? Also how much for medication (more or less) annually?
Sorry, just concerned that’s all.
Thanks again

Answer

No, the government does not intend to start charging people for medications, especially for a condition like HIV where treatment is really expensive and almost nobody can afford it. Those are only rumours from people who like drama by some reason.

So relax, everything is under control.

Yes, I agree with Michael’s comment, we are so blessed here in the UK to have both the NHS and consultants dedicated and trained in the field of HIV.

Generally speaking-yes. Luckily we have a national health system, unlike some other countries. Having said that, we are not perfect either. It is the task of the society and each of us to improve the situation though.

We are so blessed in UK to have such a fantastic health service that provides FREE treatment and consultations. This contrasts markedly with the States.
