Pregnant and on efavirenz, is my baby at risk?

Hi I’ve been on ARVs for 2 years now and I just found out I’m pregnant and I’m 22weeks now. I was using the efavirenz pill all along how safe is my baby?

Thanks for your email. First of all- congratulations on your pregnancy!

Although there used to be a caution against using efavirenz in pregnancy this has changed.

Many women now continue or start treatment with efavirenz during pregnancy. This is because there have not been any reports of increased problems with efavirenz.
