Q and A

Question

I have an undetectable viral load, is this good?

I have been told that i have an undetectable viral load and that this is very low. Is this good?

Answer

Hi,

Having a viral load that is low is good. The lower the better!

Your viral load tells you how much virus is in your body. The main aim of HIV treatment is to get an undetectable viral load. Having an undetectable viral load usually means that it is under 50 copies per mL. At this level tests find it difficult to find or ‘detect the virus. It doesn’t mean that there is no virus just that there is very little.

You can find more information on viral load in our guide.
