Question

Risks if my partner is really positive?

Hi I am HIV positive and on treatment..my partner tested negative and he insists tha we should not use a condom..i asked at clinic about the risks of us not using the condom and they told me about reinfection cause they are not sure if my partner is really not positive…so I am confused

Answer

I don’t know how to answer your question.

If your partner won’t test with you them where is the trust – especially if you are HIV positive.

If he is positive and not on treatment, then reinfection is unlikely to be a problem, because he is very unlikely to have drug resistance.

If he is on treatment, then the risk of transmission is very low.

If he won’t test with you, then the relationship doesn’t sound healthy.
