Q and A

Question

Should I start ART with a CD4 count of 450?

Answer

Hi

It sounds like your doctor gave you good information.

Since 2015, WHO guidelines have recommended HIV treatment (ART) for everyone, even at a high CD4 count above 500.

In a few countries, people wait until 500 if treatment access is difficult, but not to 350.

The START study showed it is better to start earlier than waiting until 350.

Hi Mellow – thanks – it sounds like you are doing everything you can. Most modern HIV drugs do not cause lipodystrophy. If you think you are having body changes, please get measurements/photos now so you can see if this changes over time.
