Q and A

Question

I’m a HIV positive man, can I have children?

I’m positive, my wife is negative. We’d like to start trying for a family, but were worried that I might infect her. Can positive men have children?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

Yes you can have children. You’re status really shouldn’t be an issue.

When thinking about having children, what’s important is that there is no risk to your partner. If your viral load is undetectable, then its OK to have sex without a condom as there’s no risk of transmission. Please see here: https://i-base.info/u-equals-u/ What this means is that you can try for children the conventional way.
