Q and A

Question

What does viral load test info mean?

My viral load blood test result says: “The linear range of this essay is 150 – 10,000 copies/mL (2.16 – 7 log copies)”.

My cd4 count 928 but i don’t know what it means

Answer

Hi

This sentence just gives the range of sensitivity for the viral load test: it can measure from 150 to 100,000 copies/mL.

If your results i undetectable, it means that your result is less than 150 copies/mL

This link explains how numbers are converted into “logs”:

Your CD4 count is very good because it is higher than 500 cells/mm3.

    Hi Nomaswazi,

If your viral load has increased this could either be a lab error or it could be a sign that the medication that you’re taking isn’t working. Are you able to have another viral load test?
If the meds are no longer working, you’ll need to change. There’s info about this here: http://i-base.info/guides/side This is something that you’ll need to discuss with your doctor.

    Hi Simon

I just tested positive with a 258000 viral load. What’s my cd4 count from these numbers? My testers weren’t clear on this part.
