I don’t understand what HIV-negative means. Please explain this to me.
What does HIV-negative mean?
HIV-negative test result means that at the point of taking the blood sample, there were not any HIV antibodies to be discovered in the sample. This means that the person was not infected with HIV – the virus that causes AIDS.
An exception would be if the person was in the so-called “window period” when he/she was infected recently, but the body had not developed any antibodies that can be detected by the test yet.
For further information see the other questions on testing.
