Question

What does HIV negative mean?

I don’t understand what HIV-negative means. Please explain this to me.

Answer

An HIV negative test result means that at the point of taking the blood sample, there were no HIV antibodies to be discovered in the sample. This means that the person was not infected with HIV.

An exception would be if the person was in the so-called “window period” when he/she was infected recently, but the body had not developed any antibodies that can be detected by the test yet.
