Q and A

Question

Can you have sex with a positive woman and not get HIV?

Can a man sleep with an infected woman and not be infected?

How is that possible?

Answer

Thank you for your question.

A man can have unprotected sex with an HIV positive woman and not get HIV.

This is not uncommon and could be due to a number of factors. These include: whether the positive woman is on treatment (treatment dramatically reduces the risk of transmission); genetics or luck.

Not every exposure results in an infection. It does not mean, however, that the negative person is protected against HIV. Over time, most people catch HIV if they continue to put themselves at risk.
