China lifts travel ban on people with HIV

China, one of only a handful of countries who have tried to maintain an entry bar to HIV-positive visitors, announced that they have overturned a 20-year policy.
The change was made on 19 April, a few days before the opening of a large international trade fair called Shanghai Expo, and follows similar policy changes in January by the US and South Korea.
The State Council reportedly posted a statement on its website that the government had passed amendments on 19 April, revising the Border Quarantine Law as well as Chinas Law on Control of the Entry and Exit of Aliens. The changes were effective immediately. Restrictions for people with leprosy and sexually transmitted diseases were also removed.
