Question
Why would my doctor test for HIV as well as hep C?
23 June 2015. Related: All topics, HIV testing.
I just was tested for hepatitis C and my readings were: AST (SGOT) – 21UL and ACT (SGPT) – 30UL. I received a phone call and told the readings were inconclusive and wanted to test again… I noticed on the report they are testing for HIV as well… I have not had any risk sex for over 12 years?
The balance of my blood tests was all in referenced range…nothing unusal.
Does my doctor know something that I don;t understand?
Answer
Hi
HIV testing is now becoming much more routine, just as a general safety test. Most countries still should ask you first, but this might not always be the case.
This is something to ask your doctor, but it is more likely to have been for your general health.
