Q and A

Question

I’m pregnant and positive, can I keep having sex?

My husband and I are HIV+ and we are both on treatment and our viral load is undetectable. I’m currently 4 months pregnant. Is it safe for the baby if we continue having unprotected sex? And if yes, when do you advise we should stop?

Answer

Hi,

Thanks for your question. Yes this is OK.

It is good you are on ARVs and both have undetectable viral loads. This will protect both your health and that of your baby.

The only reason to use condoms is to prevent STIs. Having unprotected sex will not affect your baby.
