Question

Can nurses who are positive work in the UK?

I’m positive and from Africa, can I work as a nurse in the UK?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

Yes nurses who are positive are able to work in the health care system in the UK. There aren’t any restrictions to this. Therefore, if you’re thinking of moving here for work, don’t let your status stop you.

    Thanks Lisa,

Do you suggest I reveal my status to the employers upon interview or should I wait until im asked to gest tested?

    Hi Clara,

Being positive wouldn’t be an issue with regards to being a nurse in the UK. As to whether you’d be asked or not, I can’t say as some people go through an agency, whereas others apply in different ways.

    Hi Arun,

There aren’t any restrictions on working in the UK for people who are HIV positive. Perhaps you can talk to the local Embassy about UK visa and immigration requirements?

    Hi Awintim,

You’ve posted this comment on a question about nurses. If you are working and resident in the UK, HIV treatment is free at any sexual health HIV clinic.
