Q and A

Question

Taking meds into Thailand

I will be moving to Bangkok, Thailand this summer to live, however I will commute back and forth to the UK for treatment. I will be carrying approximately 7 months worth of meds; I know it is advisable to carry meds in hand luggage but is it advisable to carry this much? Would it be better to put some in my checked luggage?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch,

Its OK for you to take ARVs into Thailand, this shouldn’t be a problem. As to whether you should check them into your hold luggage, I’d advise against this just in case something happens to your luggage.

If you’re at all worried about taking meds into Thailand it might be a good idea to ask your consultant for a letter explaining the reason for why you are travelling with that amount of medication. This is common practice when going to the US.
