Hi, I’ve recently found out that my partner is HIV positive and its been weeks since we had unprotected sex. I am a breastfeeding mother of a 1 year old baby boy. What are the chances of my baby being infected with the disease?
Answer
Thanks for getting in touch.
If a baby is going to contract HIV then this will be through a mother is who HIV positive. As long as you aren’t positive then there isn’t a risk.
Have you had a HIV test since your partner was diagnosed? If you haven’t then this is something that you should do. It would also be a good idea to have your child tested and if possible to stop breastfeeding. This is a precautionary measure.
