I’m positive, pregnant and on medication. I don’t know what my partners status is. Is my baby at risk?
Answer
Thanks for getting in touch.
If a baby is going to contract HIV, its from their mothers. The status of their father doesn’t have any impact on a childs possible status.
Your partner if he hasn’t tested should test. This is because he may also be positive.
Hi Wisdom,
The best way to help protect your baby’s health is for your partner to be on HIV treatment (ART). Women around the world have taken ART safely in pregnancy now for over 20 years.
Here is the guide to HIV pregnancy and women’s health. Has your partner started ART? Looking after your partner’s health using ART can help protect your baby from HIV.
