Q and A

Question

My CD4 is 450, what is my life expectancy?

I’ve just been diagnosed with HIV. My CD4 count is 450. My doctor told me I will live for 15-20 years. Is this really true?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

Though no one can predict how long someone will live for, your doctor telling you that you have 15-20 years is very irresponsible. It’s also wrong.

As long as you take your medication a prescribed, then there’s no real reason why your life will be cut short. Please see Q10 here for more info: https://i-base.info/qa/what-are-the-most-asked-questions

    Hi Pedro,

I’m not sure about your question. Are you HIV positive?

Do you have access to HIV treatment (ART)? Please let us know if you also have your viral load results.

If I have high cd4 count will I still have to take more precaution if I get fever or just treat it in a normal way the way I use to when I did not have HIV
