Q and A

Question

Will immune boosters prevent me from getting COVID-19?

I’m HIV positive and taking ARVs. My sisters bought me some immune boosters, will these stop me from getting Covid 19?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

There isn’t really any such thing as an immune booster.

This is just advertising. Unless supported by research, the only effect of so-called immune boosters will have less money after buying them.

But psychologically they might make you feel better, so long as you can afford them. Just as it is nice that your sister thought of you and is trying to help.

The best way to avoiding coronavirus is to follow the guidelines in your country.

Prevention/reducing risk usually includes

  • Maintaining social distancing.
  • Wearing a mask in public spaces.
  • Practicing good hygiene but washing your hands well and not touching your face.

    Hi Sarah,

Weight loss with Atrozia ins’t a common side effect. If anything people gain weight. Weight loss can be due to a number of factors, one of which is stress. If you’re losing too much weight, please consult a doctor.

Also, I’ve noticed I’ve been losing weight since starting Atroiza. Why is that happening?

    Hi Sarah,

i-base advocates aren’t medical doctors. If you want to stop using the Depo as well as use Fertipli you’re going to need to talk to your doctor/nurse about this.

I have been taking depo but I want it out of my system as it wasn’t really my first choice. I have heard that Fertipil can balance hormones and clean the reproductive system.

    Hi Sarah,

It’s OK to use the depo when taking Atrozia. However for me to be able to comment on the hormone balancing pills, I’ll need to know what you’re intending to take. I’ll be able to tell you about possible interactions with Atrozia, but not the depo.

    Hi Sarah,

Please talk to you doctor about your HIV treatment and contraception. Some contraceptives can interact with some ARVs.

Please let us know what HIV meds you’re taking. And if you have access to your CD4 and viral load results, please tell us what they are.

I am currently on the depo shot, I was wondering if you have any idea if hormone balancing pills might reduce the effectiveness of depo provera?
