Is Novatrim the same as nevirapine and zidovudine?

My baby is exposed to HIV so I was given nevirapine and zidovudine. But when I went for refill for zidovudine because it has finished the nurse gave me Novatrim without asking any questions. Is it Novatrim and is it good for my son of three weeks.

No, these are different medicines.
Nevirapine and zidovudine are both HIV medicines. They are only given to you baby for a short time – usually four weeks.
Novatrim is an antibiotic that is also called cotrimoxazole This tablet contains two antibiotics. This is usually given to the baby afterwards and for a much longer time.
If the times were different or if you are still worried, please call you clinic so they can double-check.

I don’t recognise Novatrim. Do you know if it also has another name? E.g., Nevirapine, Co-trimoxazole, Bactrim?
Please help should the exposed baby continue taking Novatrim suspension 100ml even though the baby is no longer breastfeeding?
Hi Feria, Novatrim is an antibiotic. Novatrim can be used to treat diarrhoea when it is caused by an infection. It works to eliminate the bacteria that is causing your symptoms.
Hi I was going to the clinic to see the nurse because of the stomach cramp and Diarrhoea,so they give that tablet NOVATRIM it is good for Diarrhoea or what please answer I’m 44yrs
Hi Lerato, you will have been given Novatrim to help prevent infection while your CD4 count is low. Discharge is not a side effect of Novatrim. Have you mentioned this to your healthcare provider? There may be another cause that needs checking.
My cd4 count was low they given me novatrim tablets since August they said i must take them for 1 year pls they make me have lot of discharge

I started taking my Regime ( hiv meds ),on the 19 November and my cd4 was less than 150 but above hundred, and I was given Novatrim at the clinic what other food stuff I must eat to boost my cD4
Hi Lucy, Novatrim is not used for treating Flu. It is an antibiotic given to babies of HIV positive mothers to prevent infections. It is often given for a number of months after being born.
