Q and A

Question

Are Trenvir and Trivenz the same thing?

I was given Trivenz in the 1st month then Trenvir in the 2nd month is it ok for my health?? I take my pills at 20:30 and my supper at 20:10 is it ok to do so?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

The ARVs that you’ve been given are both generic versions of an ARV called Atripla, please see here: https://i-base.info/guides/1561 What this means is that they contain the same compounds. It’s common to be given different generic versions of Atripla, especially in Southern African countries.

With regards to when you should take your meds, the above link discusses this.

Hi Robby, Trenvir is not PrEP. Truvada and Descovy are the only licensed medications to be used as PrEP. In the UK Trenvir is not used as PEP, though it is likely it is used in other countries as PEP. It does contain a combination suitable for PEP.

Hi, Trenivir is not used as PrEP. It is a version of Atripla, used in the management of diagnosed HIV. Truvada and Descovy are both licensed to be used as PrEP. This guide will provide more information: https://i-base.info/guides/prep

    Hi Mzwakhe,

ED can be due to numerous things, ARVs won’t however be the issue as they don’t impact a persons sex drive. If you’re having issues, please consult at doctor.

    Hi Alice,

No these aren’t side effects of Trenvir. If you have a cold and you’re sneezing it’s due to something else.

    Hi Paballo,

Trenivr is a commonly used ARV, it can be taken during pregnancy and it’s very effective. With regards to birthing options, this will all depend on what your viral load is when you go into labour. Please see here for more info: https://i-base.info/guides/pregnancy

If you’re new to ARVs, this may also be helpful: https://i-base.info/guides/starting
