Q and A

Question

When do you take Rizene?

I’ve just been prescribed Rizene by my doctor. The pharmacist said I can take it any time, is that true?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

Rizene is a generic version of an ARV called Atripla, please see here:

Rizene should be taken before you go to bed. This is so you are asleep during the possible side effects, that include mood changes.

As you’re new to ARVs you may find the following helpful:

Hi Zanele, congratulations on your pregnancy. Rizene is a medication safe to be taken during pregnancy. It will help prevent HIV transmission to baby and keep you healthy.

Hi Thozi, I am sorry to hear you are experiencing these side effects. When Polmed first suggested this did they offer you a choice? and have you approached them about this within the last 2 years you have been taking Rizene? In these 2 years it is likely that the cost of treatment will have gone down making Trisbuss more suitable. Trisbuss is becoming more common globally due to low side effects and relative low cost. As you have been experiencing side effects the doctor prescribing this should also be taking into account your experience on the treatment and what you have found most useful.

I am the member of Polmed. I was using Tribuss tablets. I got used to it. 2 yrs ago Polmed said I should use Rizene as it was cheaper than tribuss. This Rizene, changed the color of my face (dark). Most people, always saying to me, “your face color it’s dark, why? Are you having stress? It’s frustrating me, this Rizene. Tribuss was better to me. Can I be allowed to take tribuss back?

    Hi Petrus,

As you may be aware Rizene should ideally be taken at night, this is due to the possible side effects that a person may have.

If however you want to switch to the morning, then yes this is possible. If you experience any changes, ie side effects you’ll need to change back to the evening.

    Hi Kholosa,

Tribuss and Rizene are both generic versions of an ARV called Atripla, please see here:

    https://i-base.info/guides/1561

What this means is that they contain the same compounds. It’s OK to change between the different generic versions.
