Q and A

Question

Are ARVs free in the UK?

Do we need to register with a clinic before coming to UK or it can be done once we are there? Which would be better? And do we need to take any special insurance to get HIV treatment or it is included in normal insurance?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

ARVs are free for anyone who lives in the UK, you don’t need insurance to access HIV treatment.

To get access you need to have an address in the UK. If you already know where you’ll be living you could contact your nearest clinic. Please see here:

If you’re coming to the UK, if it’s possible you should come with your HIV medical record and with a few months supply of meds. This will help the consultant and give you time to arrange an appointment.
