Question

Are swollen lymph nodes early symptoms of HIV?

Hi,

Is it a MUST that a person will have swollen lymph nodes (as seroconversion symptoms), if he gets infected by HIV?

I have read that some people don’t develop any early symptoms (no swollen lymph nodes even). How is this possible that the body is being infected by HIV and the lymph nodes stay normal and don’t swell?

To put other way, if a person gets infected by HIV he or she must develop swollen lymph nodes as early symptoms.

Thanks

Answer

Thank you for your question.

It is true that some people do not experience any symptoms during seroconversion with HIV. Everybody’s immune system is individual and even with a high amount of virus in the body at the start of infection and an immune response, it does not always mean that the lymph nodes will swell.
