Do people living with HIV who are treated with ART get other STIs?
Answer
Hi, how are you?
Yes, HIV medication only helps managed HIV. It does not prevent you from getting any other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
As with HIV, condoms reduces the risk of other STIs including gonorrhoea, hepatitis B and chlamydia. Condoms are less effective though against syphilis, herpes and genital warts which are spread by skin contact.
Regular checks with a health clinic can help keep you aware of other STIs. HIV can also increase the risk of other STIs. It is important to continue using condoms to prevent this transmission.
