Q and A

Question

My baby is not latching to breastfeed.

Hi, my baby is 3 months old and I have been breastfeeding. For the past 2 days he does not want to breastfeed. I’m HIV positive and his results are negative, what must I do? Should i change to formula?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Are you able to access a health clinic? Switching is not recommended as it might increase the risk of transmission.

If baby is not feeding on the breast, it’s possible they will not feed on a bottle. It is important to have your baby looked at to make sure everything is alright. If it is as simple as not wanting to latch, midwives will be able to offer advise/counselling on feeding techniques yo help you feed.

If you have another question please ask,

Josh.
