Question
I take my medication 20 minutes late.
23 January 2022. Related: Adherence, CD4 and viral load.
Hi, I’m currently taking doravirine, lamivudine, tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (Delstrigo). I’ve been taking my medication about 5-20 mins late for a total of 6 times for the past two months. This happens about once a week.
I’m really scared so I went to my doctor a few weeks ago and my viral load is still undetectable. However, could my VL change if this trend of me taking it 5-15 mins persists? Thanks.
Answer
Hi, how are you doing?
You are not at risk of your viral load changing. There is enough concentration of drug in your body that being 20 minutes late with the next dose is not going to be a problem.
If you are occasionally late with your medication could you change the time you take you medication? If you change your time of medication to the time that you’ve been taking them when late it will negate this anxiety. It is important you take your medication at the best time that suits you.
Josh.
