HIV treatment and PrEP do contain some of the same medication. Though it is not recommended to use HIV treatment for PrEP.

This is because HIV treatment uses a combination of 3 drugs, whereas PrEP is a combination of 2. There is also only a few combinations recommended to be used as PrEP. The main one being Truvada.

Using HIV treatment can result in you experiencing side effects that could be avoided if using Truvada.
