Is TLD used by people who have HIV or not?
Answer
Hi, how are you?
TLD is a combination of 3 drugs, tenofovir, lamivudine and dolutegravir. It is an antiviral and is used to treat and prevent HIV.
TLD can be taken daily by someone HIV positive daily to treat HIV. It will suppress viral load and prevent transmission to other people. It will also allow for CD4 count recovery.
In people exposed to HIV, if taken with 72 hours, TLD can be taken as a 28 day course to prevent transmission of HIV.
Josh.
Hello Bryan and thanks for getting in touch.
You didn’t really need to be on PEP since your partner is on medication already but well done to you for taking responsibility about your health.
I think you could benefit Fromm going on PrEP instead, which has one medication less so less side effects:

You are right, you are protected and can skip using condoms for the time you are on PEP but remember to test for other sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhoea or syphilis cause PEP protects you only from HIV
I am currently taking TLD after a condom broke with a lady I had sex with who is already taking Reydin as PEP. Can I continue having unprotected sex if I am already taking TLD?
Hello Brocky and thanks for getting in touch.
I have changed the language in your original message as it is stigmatising.
I will not be answering questions with stigmatising or discriminatory content so please educate yourself.
Someone living with HIV who is on effective treatment (ie. their viral load is undetectable) cannot pass on HIV to their sexual partners.

That means that when your partner reaches an undetectable viral load you don’t need to use protection at all.
You need to discuss with the doctor who prescribed the medication as to who should be on them and whether they were given to you as PEP or your partner as treatment.
I would expect that TLD is prescribed to your partner as treatment.
If you want some extra protection or if your partner is not undetectable yet you can start PrEP yourself which can prevent and protect you from catching HIV. This is usually a two drug combination tablet of emtricitabine + tenofovir.

Hi I’m asking for clarity on how these vulante tablets works, I am confused as to who is supposed to be in taking the medication between me the hiv negative individual or my partner who is diagnosed with an undetectable hiv infection??
What are the risks of having unprotected sex with someone living with HIV and what are the chances of me catching HIV while on these tablets?
Hello Job and thank you for contacting us.
I am very sorry but I don’t understand the question.
Is your partner living with HIV?
Are you afraid you might have been exposed to HIV?
When did you have sex?
Please clarify
I have had unprotected sex with a partner who was taking TLD for the last week. What is the solution?
