Question

Would previous pills stopping milk production, prevent me breastfeeding my second child?

Hi there, I am currently pregnant with my second born and I am thinking of breastfeeding. I didn’t breastfeed my first and was given pills to stop the milk production. Would this in anyway affect me breastfeeding my newborn?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

The pills given to you previously will not effect your ability to breastfeed this time.

Josh.

Hello Justine and thanks for getting in touch.

Congratulations on your babies. You must be over the moon.

Please speak with your doctor about the best way to go about this.

I am not sure what the practice is about a pregnant breastfeeding mother and what the process is to stop breastfeeding.

From an HIV point of view I can tell you that the best thing you can do for your babies is to be undetectable.

Also, formula milk carries no risk of transmission for the babies.

I hope you have a great pregnancy and congratulations again

I am pregnant while breastfeeding & I want to wean the baby off at 1,5 year. Can the pills of stopping milk affect my pregnancy or if the baby breastfeed in the course of taking pills will she be affected. Thanks
