Q and A

Question

Do I need to undergo cancer screening?

I am undetectable for the last 1.5 years and taking Biktarvy with antibiotics. My CD4 count was 74 when diagnosed (now CD4 count is 220) so do I need to undergo any cancer screening? I have asked my doctor and he told that not required. Is there any standard process to undergo cancer screening for HIV patient?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

It is great to hear that your treatment is working well and that you have been undetectable for the last 1.5 years.

There are no additional screening programmes specific for people living with HIV.

The only increased screening is for cervical cancer. In the UK this is every 3 years for the general population however it can be offered yearly for women who are HIV positive.

Josh.
