Q and A

Question

Can I crush or split my HIV tablets?

Can I crush my reydin tablet if I find it difficult to swallow?

Answer

Thanks for your question.

Reydin is a generic version of a single pill with three drugs. It’s also called TLD.

Please do not chop or powder these pills.

Please talk to your doctor about these problems in case you can use a version that is produced for children as a syrup.

Hi Vincent, how is your brother mentally ‘unstable’? Giving him treatment when he has mental capacity to choose not to be on treatment is against the law. How old is your brother and has he had his mental capacity assessed regarding the decision to not take his treatment?

If it has been assessed that he does not have capacity for this decisions and you are allowed to give him his medication, please speak to a pharmacist about crushing up the pills. Crushing HIV medication can change how well it works and it needs to be signed off by a pharmacist to make sure that the treatment will still be effective when given crushed instead of whole.
