Q and A

Question

Will Luvigen work the same as Aluvia and Tenemine?

I have been on Aluvia and Tenemine for over 10 years and today my medication was changed to Luvigen. Will this still work the same?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Luvigen is a newer medication called TLD. It will work the same way as your current combination. It will also mean only taking one tablet instead of two.

There is a small difference in the drugs that they use but they both work to suppress HIV. Was this explained by your doctor when the switch was made?

Luvigen contains dolutegravir. For this reason it is recommended to take in the morning. This is because it can sometimes cause problems sleeping.

What time do you currently take your medication?

Josh.

Hi Sibongile, if you meds are TLD – and include dolutegravir, please try taking them in the morning. This is because dolutegravir can keep you awake at night.

I normally take my pills at night and find it very difficult to sleep
