Q and A

Question

Why is my viral load now less than 100?

Hi, I am HIV+ and on ART for one year. My PCR HIV test was negative for 7 months but the last time it says ‘less than 100’. Does it mean that virus get resistant to the medication? I always take my meds everyday right on time.

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

No this does not mean HIV is resistant to medication.

You still have a suppressed viral load and you are unable to pass on HIV via sex. Your treatment is still working.

Your previous results ‘negative’ and ‘less than 100’ mean the same thing. It is still considered undetectable as you have not been given an actual number of your viral load.

Please see this previous question.

Josh.
