Vaccines recommended for HIV reactive when CD4 is less than 100…
Answer
Hi, how are you doing?
The vaccines recommended remain the same as those with a CD4 count greater than 200, however there is some risk of increased reaction, or the vaccines not taking as well.
There are 10 vaccines that the World Health Organisation recommends:
- BCG – only when immunologically stable (CD4% greater than 25%)
- HBV
- DTP-containing vaccines (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis)
- Measles
- HPV – only recommended in adolescents
- Cholera
- Dengue
- Pneumococcal conjugate
- Rubella – NOT GIVEN in severe immunocompromised states
- Typhoid
Recommendations can vary on country. In the UK BHIVA guidelines are used to recommend what vaccines should be given and how they should be given if the HIV status changes the normal way the vaccine works.
This is explained more here.
