Q and A

Question

Can I restart treatment after 3 years?

Hey. I stopped taking my ARVs 3 years back. Can I go to another clinic to start my medication again, not the older one. Please help.

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

It is great to hear that you are wanting to restart your medication.

Can I ask why you stopped 3 years ago?

Yes you will be able to go to a new clinic. In the last 3 years have you had any viral load and/or CD4 tests?

Do you have any notes about your HIV history? Going to a new clinic with a history of your HIV treatment can help inform the doctors of how you have been treated in the past and what medications work for you.

Are you looking to restart the same treatment you were on? It would be important that you have a viral load test a few weeks after restarting to check that your treatment is still working.

Josh.
