Is Luvigen safe during pregnancy?

Hi I am Tee. I’m HIV positive, 1 to 2 months pregnant and I’m taking Luvigen pills but my concern is that I have read on the leaflet that it is not safe taken during pregnancy and it may seriously harm the baby!! Please advise me if my unborn baby will not be harmed and whether should I ask the Healthcare provider at the Clinic during my next antenatal visit to change my prescription! Please advise me on how safe is Luvigen pills during pregnancy??

Congratulations on your pregnancy and yes it is safe to take Luvigen while pregnant.
There was a concern about dolutegravir (a drug in Luvigen) and neural tube defects. This is an old concern and it has been shown that the risk is the same in someone not on Luvigen and someone who is.
Luvigen is safe for you and baby and is the best way to keep both of you healthy and reduce the risk of transmission to as low as possible.
