Question

Is baby okay if they have oral thrush?

Hi my baby got oral thrush he is on nevirapine and I am taking my drugs. is he safe he is seven weeks?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Congratulations on having a baby.

Yes baby is safe. Oral thrush is a common infection in babies.

How is baby being fed? Thursh can be passed on via breastfeeding – you can continue to breastfeed while taking treatment for thrush.

Thrush is identified in your breast when you can notice pain in both breasts after breastfeeding, when previously there was none.

Has baby now started treatment for thrush?

Josh.

Hi Joan, the thrush needs to be treated and managed by the clinic. I am sorry that this is too complicated to answer online because a doctor or nurse needs to physically see your baby and these symptoms.
