Q and A

Question

Do I need to take meds in the morning to help my kidneys?

I’m using Acriptega (Dol/Lam/Ten – 50mg/300mg/300mg). I’m taking 1 tablet per day at 10:00 PM and I have no problem with insomnia or anything.

But yesterday my nurse told me that I need to change the time to day time (whenever I choose) because talking Acriptega at night will increase the chance of getting kidney failure. She said that frequent urination in day time will help excrete the drug faster, avoiding kidney failure later. I read the paper inside the drug box, but there’s no information mentions that.

Taking medicine at night is more convenient for me, do I need to change the time? Thank you.

Answer

Hi there

I am sorry but the nurse is not giving you good information.

This has never been reported for any HIV drug which is why it is not included in the information in the leaflet or online. Although your kidneys filter chemicals from your blood into your urine, the timing of when you go to the bathroom doesn’t have any link to kidney function as the filtering has already been done.

So long as you are sleeping well you can chose to take your meds at night if you prefer.
